Project Description

The objective of the Project was to build a First Class sub-centre (1,900 ha.) to the west of Chengdu City as well as a modern Garden City with convenient linkages to the Airport. The Site is located in the western part of old Shuangliu County, with major functions including administration, cultural, entertainment and public green spaces.

The major strategy used was “a defined city functional axis with two integrated Green Belts surrounded by a self-sustained residential area” to achieve integration with the Airport and Old City at the same time.

Ancient Shu and Shuangliu cultures are also adopted in the layout design. The 800m wide Green Belt within the Site was designed to create a “Green Harbour” to become an attractive landmark for the City. It will be the first “Green City” in western China. Detailed design of two key nodes including the new City Centre and Sport Centre were also undertaken. Due to the innovative design, TOWNLAND received JOINT SECOND PRIZE on this Project.
