Project Description

Zhoushan is an archipelago located 100 km southeast of Shanghai.The Zhoushan Government commissioned TOWNLAND through the Urban Planning Society of China (Agent) as one of the International Consultants to submit a Conceptual Master Plan for the strategic development of the achipelago (72,144 ha.).

TOWNLAND developed a comprehensive land use plan based on a thorough investigation into the positioning of Zhoushan’s economy in the Yangtze River Delta Region. The Study concluded that five “Dragonhead Industries” – the shipbuilding industry, specialized port industry, new manufacturing industry, integrated fishery industry and cultural tourism – should be pursued in Zhoushan. Theming and spatial strategies were formulated to facilitate their development in a sustainable manner. 70% of the land area is to be reserved as Green Open Space. TOWNLAND were awarded FIRST PRIZE in this International Competition.
