Project Description

Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Limited (DAME) was awarded the concession to carry out works on the Airport Express Rail Link between New Delhi Railway Station and the Indira Gandhi International Airport. As such, DAME will be responsible for running and maintaining trains, as well as realizing real estate assets including the Depot Site Area, for a period of 30 years.

TOWNLAND was appointed by DAME to undertake the Conceptual Architectural Design for the proposed Commercial Complex for the Dwarka Depot Building. With a total site area of 4 ha and a total gross floor area of 77,000 sq m, the Commercial Complex is to comprise six Office Towers on top of a Shopping Mall which accommodates a host of retail shops, restaurants and a multiplex. The design is based on a review of the retail commercial market around the Site, as well as a recommended retail commercial positioning for the future Development to maximize the returns of the Project.

The main design elements of the Mall include one major circulation route, without secondary loops, that leads visitors through the Mall; and two large atrium spaces, each with its own character to create a memorable experience. The fluid curving façade of the exterior is mirrored in the interior design with soft curving lines of the shop fronts adding greatly to the visual quality of the atrium spaces as well as within the interior of the entire Mall.

The key element of the Design Brief was to create an iconic design that is different from any other Mall in Delhi, and a Mall that is an attraction and a destination for visitors from not just Dwarka, but the City as a whole.
