Dusun Bambu Family Leisure Park, Lembang-Bandung-West Java | February 2021
Dusun Bambu Family Leisure Park is an integrated Eco and Cultural Tourism Destination in West Java, Indonesia. Located just outside of Lembang, in the highlands and featuring fresh air, a natural environment and panoramic views, the Site provides a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of hectic city life in Greater Bandung and Jakarta. The Site’s diverse, nature inspired and culturally sensitive programme of activities is highly family oriented and attracts just over a million visitors annually.
Spanning over 19.5 hectares of land at the foot of mount Burangrang, Dusun Bambu was previously abandoned agricultural land, which was left in a poor condition. In 2008, a group of Indonesian businessman took the initiative and repaired this damaged ecosystem, turning it into a bamboo conservation area. Dusun Bambu today is renowned for its “Private Sanctuary Lifestyle” concept. Marrying the beauty of nature with the charm of Sundanese traditional culture, the facilities at Dusun Bambu are designed to create a memorable experience in nature where visitors can step into replicas of Sundanese traditional villages.
Due to its high popularity, the Owner decided to review its current operations and layout, to add more facilities and to expand the overall Development. The Vision for the Project is to become the leading eco, cultural and educational tourism destination, not only in West Java, but within the South East Asian Region. Inspired by a strong Vision and Mission, TOWNLAND worked closely with the Owner-operator and others to develop a unique concept which has elevated Dusun Bambu’s branding and identity. This is achieved by weaving strong thematic traditional stories and values into the Master Plan, its landscape and architectural elements, as well as its facilities and activities.
At the end of 2020, the new expansion area of Lembur Urang is opened. It represents a living model of a traditional Sundanese village with variety of interesting activities. Through the welcoming area in between the paddy fields, visitors are greeted by bamboo musical performance. Along the way, they can experience traditional games, as well as create their own woven craft and batik paintings, guided by the native folk from a Sundanese Village in West Java. A series of traditional huts are located overlooking the terracing landscape as places to enjoy meals from specialty restaurants. On top of Lembur Urang, an amphitheatre with impressive green views showcases performances. Bamboo, wood and natural stone is widely used as the main materials for the carefully-designed landscape features. All of these are supported by striking planting compositions that highlight the use of local plant species that are easily found in the surrounding area, and which are low maintenance and weatherproof.
