A Walkable and Well Connected Transit Oriented Development

TOWNLAND was commissioned to prepare Conceptual Master Layout Planning and Regulatory Detail Planning for four key Station Development Areas/Town Centres along the Taiwan High Speed Rail Line.  The Project developsthe theme of “Sustainable Transport Oriented Community Development”. TOWNLAND wasthe Study Lead and responsible for all land use planning, regulatory planning, master planning, urban design and landscape inputs.

After previously submitting a medium density and mixed-use option for the new Taiwan High Speed Rail Station in Chiayi, the Client requested TOWNLAND to develop a second development option that aimed for a lower density residential community with a reduced commercial component.

After carrying out an intensive Sense of Place Study of the area and developing a unique design theme, a scheme was outlined that responded to the local character of the site with lower densities in a natural setting, whilst applying a diverse and modern architectural language.

Various components of modern Urban Design were applied, such as the accessible use of Public Transport Facilities, walkability and connectivity within the site, creation of liveable communities and the internationally recognized CPTED principles (Crime Prevention through Environmental Design).
