This objective of this Planning and Design Project was to pedestrianize the old urban area in Zhenghai District (4,200 Ha) in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province. There were two Action Areas, namely (1) Nan Da Street, and (2) Qing Chuang Road, and the surrounding environment was also taken into consideration.

The project addressed the conflict between pedestrians and vehicles and problems of safety and street legibility. Based on the aforementioned considerations and relevant international planning experience, the project identified the significant nodes of the Action Areas and the essential linkages. Also, macro-strategies were formulated in order to identify the planning themes fot two Action Areas.
