A Planning and Urban Design Study to prepare a Conceptual Master Plan for a composite residential development in Ngau Tam Mei Valley. The Study Area covers an area of about 264 ha. and is located within a secluded Valley floor in Ngau Tam Mei, North West New Territories. With a proposed KCRC station serving external traffic, an environmentally-friendly local transit system is envisaged to link communities to the station, increasing non-car-based trips. Different types of residential developments are proposed across the Valley with a view to creating both variety within a theme and visual interest. The main focus of the development is a specially designed pedestrianized retail street together with a central civic square at the Town Centre around the proposed KCRC Station. A variety of local landmarks are proposed within the overall built form, providing a “sense of place” for each neighbourhood. The plan explores a new concept for the design of Hong Kong’s New Towns at the turn of the century. |
